1. Gingerman @Drakes - Located under Drakes Hotel at 44 Marine Parade, BN2 1PE to book call 01273 696934 A real favourite with locals and visitors alike, following the success of the sister Gingerman restaurant, head chef and owner Ben McKellar prepares exquisite menus of contemporary European dishes that are served in relaxed, intimate surroundings. The menu offers great value for money at just £27 for two courses and £32 for three. Alongside the à la carte evening menu there is a lunch menu consisting of a choice of two starters, two main courses and two puddings, excellently priced at £12 for one course, £15 for two courses and £18 for three.


2. Sevendials -Seven Dials Restaurant Restaurant In Brighton Since opening in 2001 the restaurant has gained a great reputation for providing exceptional dining and boasts 2AA rosettes. This family owned fine dining restaurant specialises in modern European food made from fresh seasonal ingredients. A former Lloyd’s Bank building, the décor of the contemporary 55-seater restaurant is impressive. Downstairs, in the Vault, there is a funky private room for 20. 3. BILLS - This place is a favourite with local foodie fans as they are an organic produce store as well as a restaurant, this is a great place for lunch, based in The Depot, 100 North Road Brighton it’s not possible to book as all tables are on a first come first seated basis. Best avoided at weekends as they are very busy but if you have booked a long weekend and have a Monday or Friday to enjoy Brighton then this is a highly recommended. The building resembles an old boatshed and there is scrubbed wood everywhere. The high ceilings and copious supplies of fresh, plump and fragrant fruit and veg oozes that healthy feeling and provides the perfect background to a guilt free scrumptious lunch. You can either order from the standard menu, or from the day's specials, favourites include a sausage or fish finger sandwich, eggs benedict with smoked salmon, buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup or grilled portobello mushrooms on toast. Or try one of the mouth watering specials.

4. Due South - Championed by Observer Food Monthly as offering “Seriously good food: exquisite oysters, perfectly cooked lamb and whole sea bass cooked with herbs, known for its seasonality and championing of local suppliers." Since they first opened in autumn 2003, Due South has prided itself on serving uncomplicated and delicious local food in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. Last year, they were voted the Best of the South-East in the Observer Food Monthly Annual Readers’ awards, received a prestigious AA rosette, and won the Remy Martin Best Newcomer outside London award. 5. The Tin Drum - The Tin Drum is a casual, yet high quality, proving that you don't need to be pretentious to create a venue with style. Now with four locations around Brighton this is a local favourite and a great place to relax with the papers and a cup of coffee before checking out the shops on Western Road. Lunch on moules marinière and a glass of ice-cold beer on the sun terrace The set menu is common to all four restaurants and changes every three months. In addition to this each chef prepares their own special dishes which change daily. A number of the dishes and drinks on our menus have a Polish flavour, but the choice is large and varied, so you should always find something to your liking. The Tin Drum was one of the first bar/restaurants in Brighton to exhibit local artists and photographers. The exhibitions are administered by Fourwalls Art Promotion and change every month. 6. Havana - This restaurant occupies the site of the old Duke Street Theatre opened in 1790. The Theatre was renamed to the Theatre Royal in 1805 after a visit from the Prince of Wales himself. The restaurant certainly has ‘wow’ factor with its colonial feel and fantastic high ceilings, make sure you take the time for a pre dinner cocktail as the choices are extensive and this is a great opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere. Offering a mouth watering menu and fine wines accompanied with jazz, the restaurant prides itself on providing international food. An evening meal costs about £45 per head. To book call 01273 773388

7. Indian Summer - This restaurant claims to be Brighton’s only Indian restaurant, this may seem like a brash statement but you can certainly see why they have the confidence to say it. Although we think flock wallpaper is cool, you won’t find any in here! Based at 8 East Street, Brighton, East Sussex, to book call (0)1273 711001. The menu is a great example of how Indian food should be done.

8. Terre a Terre - Forget everything you have ever read or heard about vegetarian food. Terre à Terre was created, 13 years ago, out of a shared passion of two people, Amanda Powley and Philip Taylor. Classically trained as chefs and having cooked throughout the world, they wanted a platform for their innovative ideas where they could push the boundaries of traditional cuisine, while adhering to their beliefs in meat-free cooking. What began as a BYO with 30 covers, supported by friends, family and the local Brighton community/growers and staff, has become one the most exciting and successful restaurants in the UK. In 2004 Terre à Terre won second place in the Observer Restaurant of the Year awards in association with Waitrose. First and foremost it is an establishment that serves outstanding food, and the fact that you won’t find meat on its menu is merely secondary. The Saint - Brighton Restaurant - The Saint Restaurant, Mediterranean, French, Italian & Spanish BistroLocated at 22, St James Street, in the heart of the lovely Kemptown, this restaurant is a relaxed, fun & unpretentious 40 cover bistro. Positioning itself as a modern bistro, the menu is French based Mediterranean cuisine with Spanish, Italian & Moorish influences. The restaurant’s wine list is a diverse, with many wines unique to their Brighton-based supplier. Food is served 12 noon until 3 pm for lunch, & 6 pm until 10 pm for dinner, Tuesdays through Sundays. 10. Sawadee - A local secret, this low-key Thai is located just down the road from The Saint at 87 St James Street, just five minutes walk from Brighton Pavilion. If you love Thai food, put this to the top of your list. The restaurant has earnt an excellent reputation locally for providing authentic and inventive Thai and the restaurant is contemporary and laid back.
